Donate to Kiva

Dear Friends,

For school I am working on a project called an eBook. In this eBook, we need to write about a UN Millennium Goal and why it is important to solve the goal. The goal I have chosen to write about is solving poverty. You guys can also check out www.danzxiao.wix.com/bentley-kiva-project. He is my partner.

Kiva is a very interesting organization. I think that it is appropriate to support Kiva because of the goal on which I am focusing. Kiva is a non-profit organization that alleviates poverty by connecting people through lending twenty-five dollars or more to entrepreneurs. Kiva helps entrepreneurs in developing countries start up their business to improve the economy. Both the lender and the receiver benefit. The lender gets their money back and the receiver gets what they require to start their business. Kiva does not charge interest and all the money the lender provides goes directly to the person who needs the loan.

Kiva was founded in 2005. In November of 2006, loans made on the website reached the $1,000,000 mark. In October of 2013, they hit the one million lender milestone. Kiva is also extremely effective. The latest statistics as of 2/20/14 are:

1,050,009 borrowers have funded their loan through Kiva
$530,356,750 has been transferred through Kiva
The repayment rate is 98.7%

Kiva was initiated by Matt Flannery and Jessica Jackley in April, 2004. However, it was founded as non-profit organization in October, 2005. Kiva’s address is:

875 Howard St, Suite #340, San Francisco, CA 94103, USA

Phone: (828) 479-5482

A few classmates of mine and I are working together to raise awareness and money for Kiva. We are using social networks and campaign sites to raise awareness and money. We have links to the lending site on our campaign sites.
